Graham City Council
05/10/22
Welcome to Ultraground - your zoning boots on the ground.
This report is to catch you up on the latest City Council meeting from May.
Estimated read time: 0:01:38
Original meeting time: 3:10:10
On May 10th the City Council made decisions on:
6-month waiting period following denial
New development signage
Farmers markets

6 months is a long time for development.
Unfortunately, the 6-month waiting period for applicants who got a denial is here to stay. The City Council made the decision to deny the request to waive the 6-month waiting period following a rezoning denial.
Why?
Mayor Talley said she didn't want developers reapplying every month.
This was a citizen-initiated request. The planning board pushed it forward to the City Council with the following details: you can get out of waiting 6-months if you change the total area by 10% OR change the total number of parcels (if multiple parcels).

Two signage rule changes were approved.
Alamance City College: signs can now go up to the 3rd floor.
New multifamily developments: signs can be up to 32 SF.

Farmers markets can now happen once per week. If they don't have permanent fixtures.

Graham sewer rights
A single-family home volunteerily annexed itself into the city of Graham.
If you are incorperated in the city of Graham, you get rights to tie into the sewer lines.
“It’s our only option”
A tiny wedding rezoning
One-fifth of an acre was rezoned from light industrial to B-2. This is for a wedding and event venue to get a rain cover. We covered when it went through planning here.
Interesting point: B-2 allows the possibility to use as a bar.

As always, thank you for being a part of Ultraground.
